Baker's Delight Giveaway

To be frank, Baker's Delight is one of my favourite foodie shops. I just love that fresh bread aroma when you walk into their bakery. And one of my little secrets, when I'm especially busy and have to go somewhere and take some baking is to quickly duck in and grab something yummy to take.
But you cannot beat their Hot Cross Buns. I have tried - several years in a row - when I was going through my self-sufficiency stage, to make my own Hot Cross Buns, and the results were not pretty. It usually took me all day to make the dough and the results simply weren't worth the effort. Have you ever heard of Hot Cross FlatBread? No, I didn't think so.
Now, I know this is probably due to my sadly-lacking baking skills, because I have friends who seem to churn them out like a pro. But I can't. I can't make gravy and I can't make hot cross buns! That's just the simple truth.
So when Baker's Delight asked our family to review some of their buns and host a giveaway, I jumped at the chance.
They really are the closest thing you will get to homemade. Better even, because you haven't had to slave over the oven. The kids love them, and they have lots of fruit in them. The chocolate buns were a huge hit with the children - just because anything with chocolate is, and it's a unique take on the traditional bun.

Well, I finally got around to doing the draw for Heather's book last night. It has been quite a week - and I've had the 'flu. The real, genuine, full-on, fever, aches, cough flu. so, just starting to turn the corner now and feeling human again and realise that it's been a week since I posted about the giveaway!

From the time of Prince William and Kate's wedding, through to the Queen's Jubilee and now the Olympic Games in London, all-things-British have been on the world's stage just lately. And it's so nice to have something in the news to celebrate, don't you think? And the British do celebrations the best I think.
And while we sit and watch the beautiful pagentry and celebrations from the comfort of our homes, it always makes me think of our English heritage, and how those ancient traditions have been passed down through each generation even here in our own little British colony, and even into our modern way of living - and one of those traditions is surely in the way we prepare our food and the way we eat it. And what is more quintessential to our culture than teatime. Morning tea. Afternoon tea. Scones and cake and lemonade - it's drummed into our genetics.
Which is why I am so excited to be hosting a giveaway for a beautiful book, London Summer - 12 recipes for festive summer teas, written by my friend, Heather LeFebvre, who lives in the USA, but who lived in Scotland for many years and has brought home to America a few of those lovely old British traditions, and Heather shows us how we can take those simple things and make them truly beautiful - a time of sharing with friends and family, celebrating summer, slowing down to enjoy tea and food and good company and moments of joy and happiness.
The photography alone in this book is good enough to eat, but you will love the recipes too. I tried out Heather's Honeyed Ginger Lemonade this weekend, which is one of the recipes in the book, and I could say that another name for it should be, Summer-in-a-Glass. The lemon and ginger combination is so delicious and refreshing that I can't wait to make bottles and bottles of it to take to our beach house this summer. I can just imagine sitting out on the deck under the umbrella with a large glass of this on a really hot day. Bliss!
Many of the recipes in the book also cater for gluten-free, or offer gluten-free options.
Heather has been generous enough to allow me to give away 2 copies of her book. The book comes in PDF format, so there's no need to wait for it in the mail, or to pay shipping! Being an instant kiwi myself, I love it when products have this option!!

I had so much fun reading through all your comments and house name suggestions. Thank you so much. I think my love of naming homes comes from LM Montgomery, and it does seem to be a tradition in my husband's family. Both of our house names come from his ancestors and their homes. Prior Hill was the name of the farm in which his great greats lived on in Scotland. And Littlebourne was the name of an old victorian house (now demolished to make way for a highway) owned by his grandparents in Dunedin, New Zealand.
I don't really want to give up Littlebourne, but each house deserves its own name. I loved your ideas. The names that stood out to me were these ones:

But, now on to the important matter at hand. Drawing the winner.

Royal Wedding Fever is almost upon us. We're getting pretty excited about it in this household. Well - we girls are. We are planning a late night vigil in front of the television to watch every minute of it.
We've just had Prince William in our city charming us all - and now we feel like he's one of us. After all, we feel like we know the guy. He's a family friend. We watched his parents get married. We saw him on the day he was born. We were saddened when his parents' marriage broke up. We cried when his mother died. We watched when his father remarried. We know all about his grandparents and his great grandparents and his great greats. We know their names, who they married, how they died, what they did. We probably know more about his family lineage than we know about our own. Prince William. A family friend. Sort of.
Anyway, I have managed to get my hands on some of the beautiful commemorative royal wedding stamps that New Zealand post has put out. Apparently, the Queen and Prince William approved them. And I am going to give one of them away to you. This is what they look like:
Now, I thought it would be kinda fun to do something fun. Most of us women, no matter how old, or where our royal loyalties lie, are interested in the dress Kate is going to wear. It has to be something elegant, royal, iconic, fashionable and beautiful to be a royal wedding gown, don't you think - so I've picked out a few wedding dress styles that Kate might potentially choose. So all you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment telling us which dress from the following you would choose for Kate to wear. Simple, right? And a bit of fun too. My personal favourite is Queen Elizabeth's, but she can't have the same as her soon-to-be grandmother-in-law. I do love Romantic number 2, but that would be more my own style. I think Kate will have something beautiful and elegant and simple - perhaps not like any of these.
Anyway, have fun - and I will choose the winner on Monday (New Zealand time).
