Project 2011 - Going Strong

Thursday, April 28, 2011
I made a new year's resolution to get my felt handmade shop up and running really well, and that has been my focus for the first few months of the year, and I'm so thrilled with how it's going. I have been making at least one sale each week on my little cloth shoes. I have a few other things in there as well that get sold little by little, but the shoes have been my best-seller, until this week.

As I mentioned in a previous post I've been teaching myself a little pattern drafting. This is something I have always wanted to learn but never have. It's kind of in my blood - my grandmother was an expert at this - so I guess I get the desire from her. Anyway, this past week I've made and drafted an old-fashioned style winter hat for children - it used to be called a helmet in the old days, but that is not a pretty word, so I just call it a Little Red Riding-Hood Winter Hat and have been dedicating two evenings in the week to putting some pretty hand-embroidery onto it. I line the pressed wool with a soft flannel, and it fits snugly over those little ears on these cold wintery days.

I uploaded my first one last night, and it sold two hours later!

Doesn't Alice make a sweet model?

So guess what I'll be doing today? I have a blue one half finished, and others planned.

I think Cate is still doing Project 2011 - to see other bloggers' progress on their resolutions, go here.

It is CUTE! And wow - that was quick!! I remember wearing similar bonnets when I was little, and my daughter has had some like that... didn't think anyone else liked that style these days though!

How many times have I commented on how clever you are?

Your shoes and the hat are just gorgeous. I am so in awe of your sewing skills!
